Am I just a pedant? Well no, I can answer that question, yes I am a pedant, but this just seems like too much.
Putting aside how much this statement makes me want to cringe at how cheesy and how not true it is (heartbeats aren’t even very musical, honestly, go hook a mic up to a stethoscope and try to use what comes out as a beat for a song, it won’t work), these notes don’t make any musical sense! It starts with a grace note leading to a diminished fifth (augmented fourth? Whatever, doesn’t matter) drop for goodness sake. Even if you counter that by pretending it’s not in C and adding accidentals it still sounds strange and disjointed.
Maybe it’s a statement. Maybe the disjointed melody is supposed to mirror the disjointed rhythm of a heartbeat. Or maybe whoever put it there just wasn’t thinking. I can’t tell you. All I can tell you is that I was sat in this school, and instead of enjoying tuning a nice big grand piano I was thinking about how the education system has gone to pot.
